Dosage of Artesunate-60 Injection
The recommended dosage of Artesunate-60 Injection is 2.4 mg/kg administered intravenously at 0 hours, 12 hours, and 24 hours, and thereafter, administered once daily until the patient can tolerate oral antimalarial therapy It should be administered as a slow bolus over 1 minute to 2 minutes and should not be administered via continuous intravenous infusion The dosage for children under 20 kg is 3 mg/kg/dose, while for children 20 kg and over and adults, it is 2.4 mg/kg/dose
How to use Artesunate-60 Injection
- Gather all the necessary supplies, including the Artesunate-60 Injection vial, a 1 ml ampoule of 5% sodium bicarbonate, and a 5 ml ampoule of 0.9% sodium chloride.
- Dissolve the powder in the entire volume of 5% sodium bicarbonate by adding it to the vial and shaking until the solution becomes clear.
- Add 5 ml of 0.9% sodium chloride to the vial to obtain 6 ml of Artesunate solution containing 10 mg/ml, for intravenous (IV) injection. Alternatively, add 2 ml of 0.9% sodium chloride to the vial to obtain 3 ml of Artesunate solution containing 20 mg/ml, for intramuscular (IM) injection.
- Ensure that the solution is clear. If it is not clear, discard it.
- Administer the Artesunate-60 Injection slowly by either IV injection (over 3 to 5 minutes) or IM injection.
